About Me

Hi, I’m Kamryn Sterling, or K.Sterl.

I’m a young self-taught artist from Houston who uses different mediums to create figurative art. I began to take my art seriously when I was in the 8th grade. It was then that I knew that I didn’t want to do anything else but translate my mind’s magnificence onto a canvas. Art itself and creating art makes me feel free when this world makes me feel like I’m in a cage. My ultimate goal is for people to be able to also feel free and a connection when looking at my art. Like every aspiring artist, I want my art to touch as many hearts as possible. I want my art in the streets of Houston, London, and NewYork. I want my art on peoples doorsteps. I want everyone, no matter what background they come from to be able to purchase my art. I truly appreciate how far God has brought me and I trust that His path will take me further than I can imagine. I hope to bless Him with my hard work and optimism throughout our journey.

“There Was Us”

Many of my paintings are about a connection; the connection of humans and the earth; the connection of space and time and God. This painting signifies the roots of our African ancestry connected to the beginning of time.

A Surrealist Piece

Other works have no meaning at all. The only reason I paint them being for my own enjoyment. This piece features a mermaid taking comfort in a tree as the sky falls around her. This artwork was more of an experiment to see if I could manage surrealism.

Abstract Collages

I had an assignment in college. The goal was to experiment with collage and the beauty of abstractionism. I thought I’d have a little fun with each assignment and make it my own. For this artwork I made several small paintings and glued them to a large paper, making a scene around them.

Now this piece was something special to me. I mixed up two magazine images on my iPad and created this collage. I wanted to focus my abstractionism on girlhood so I added lyrics from the song “I’m just a girl”by No Doubt, and other words I associated with being feminine. The end result turned out looking like a magazine cover and I fell in love.
